Local Outreach Projects
As well as being a very strong community of boys, staff, parents, governors and Old Guildfordians, the RGS also engages fully with the local community. It is the School’s belief that to be outward-facing is one of the best ways of enhancing and enriching our own community. It also gives boys exposure to the diversity of the world outside the RGS.
Much of this outreach is to local schools and involves our own boys; for example, boys go to Boxgrove Primary School to teach Latin, to Sandfield Primary School to help with their after-school French club and Holy Trinity Pewley Down to help with Mathematics.
RGS teachers are also very involved in these activities and once a week they teach a Tudor Project to local Year Five children at the RGS and invite local schools to lectures and Oxbridge lessons. The Music Department helps to lead the Strings’ Scheme at St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School and the RGS also runs masterclasses and an annual Summer School for local Primary School children.
Collaboration with local schools also takes place at a strategic level and the RGS is a member of the Guildford 11 – 19 Partnership and the Teaching School Alliance. Through these connections, partnership with local schools takes place through collaboration on professional development and shared use of facilities.
